This distinction is one we are proud of at Palos Golf Shop because it shows that our company is respected in the community. Customer service is at the crux of what we do and it is our goal to make sure every customer enjoys the sport of golf.

The Origins of Our Discount Golf Shop

Since 1976, our family-owned business has been an independent retailer of brand-name, quality golf products. Tom and Nancy Thoss were joined at Palos Golf by son Brett in 1993 after he successfully ran Badger Golf for several years in Madison, Wisconsin.

From the start, golf has been in our blood. Our family was involved in the golf wholesale distributorship business in Chicago. Beginning in the 1940s, Nancy’s family owned Northern Golf Ball Co. and another retail golf shop called Lincoln Fairways. When Lincoln Fairways closed in 1976, Palos Golf was born. Because of the family dynamic and respected name, major golf companies allowed us to carry their brands in our shop. Throughout the years, we have proven our name to both the brands we sell and the customers we serve.

The shop was created with a business philosophy of treating every customer fairly, honestly assessing customer needs, and providing them with top quality merchandise. Our Expert Staff Defines the Company

A business is only as strong as its team. We place a large emphasis on family and teamwork because the combination of these made us a better business for our customers. Our ownership and management staff defines our business.

Thomas Thoss (our founder recently deceased 10/18/20)

He had nearly 40 years of experience and expertise in golf club fitting and more. Tom’s personality made him approachable and he helped every client feel like a return customer. Tom cared about finding the right equipment for every person’s golf game. He willingly shared his knowledge and loved to talk to clients that had difficult issues with their golf club fitting.

Tom regularly played golf and was a member of Ancala Country Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was proud to hold two club senior championship wins.

Nancy Thoss

She has golf in her blood since her father was the proud owner of several wholesale and retail golf outlets. Nancy grew up on the driving range, both teeing off for fun and working. She quickly learned the game of golf and has built her professional life around her passion. Because Nancy understands the needs of women golfers, she has dedicated a whole section of her store to this growing percentage of golf players.

She plays golf weekly in two leagues where she is an active participant. When she and Tom winter in Arizona, she also plays at Ancala Country Club.

Brett Thoss

He is proud to be the third generation in his family of golf shop owners and operators. Growing up in the shop taught him to love the game but it also lit a passion within him to share this sport with people in Southwest Chicago. In 1993, after some time in Madison, Wisconsin, Brett returned to an enlarged shop.

Brett keeps up with industry standards, including new technology, trends in the business, and more. He attends the PGA Show Convention every year to learn how to better serve all customers. He has played with many PGA tour players and understands just how important changes in golf are in dictating play. When you visit the shop, you will most likely find Brett in the simulator, either fitting golfers or instructing students.
